Sidi Kaouki, Essaouira, MOROCCO

submitted by: Juli

GENERAL
Sidi Kaouki is a small Fishermanīs Village with only 20 houses at the beginning of the beach. During winter you find a perfect beach break here (2-5 meters). During summer the wave is smaller (1.5-3 meters) but still very nice to surf. It is a very quiet place. During summertime there are many windsufers.
Marocco is a country with 1000 faces and there are 1000 places with great waves. Most of the places have not been overrun by tourism, so you can make a true travel experience. The languages spoken in Marocco are Arabic and French. The currency is Dirham (15 Euro are about 1 Dirham). Amex and Visa are accepted in most shops of larger cities but you should always be carrying cash as well. The more you move towards west-sahara the less you can rely on your plastic money.

SPOT RATING: 4****

CLIMATE
The best time to surf is winter when atlantic lows bring a constant swell to the European and African coasts. The temperatures at the coast are moderate in winter, with a slight chance of rain. The summers are hot and dry.

HOW TO GET THERE
from Essaouira itīs about 10km towards Agadir, then make a right towards the beach.

The best way to get to Marocco is by plane. From Central Europe the flight is about 4 hours and costs beetween 220 and 600 EURO, depending on season and airline. Most charter flights go to Agadir and Casablanca, but Marakesh is also a good basis to start exploring. You can get a rent a car right at the airport. If you want to go down there by car, you can take a ferry from Almeria or Algericas to Tanger.

WAVES
Beach Break, the largest waves are there in january/february during peak times there can be monster waves of up to 6 meters.
Water Temperature in Summer: 18-20 °C
Water Temparature in Winter: 15-17 °C
